An audio guestbook is an alternative to a traditional guest book. Instead of your guests writing messages on paper that you might never look at again, they pick up a real vintage rotary phone and leave you a voicemail. You get to hear the actual voices of the people you love most: heartfelt advice, drunk laughter, inside jokes, even savvy role wishes. It captures the moments that don't really fit into a wedding photo or a wedding video.
Think of it as a time capsule you can listen to, forever.

How does it work?
1. Book your phone. Reserve your vintage rotary phone at afterthetone.co. Starting at just $299, we're probably going to be the most affordable wedding vendor you hire.
2. It arrives ready to go. Your phone ships one to two weeks before your event date, with everything you need inside the box: the phone, a sign, instructions, a charging cable, and a prepaid return label. We cover shipping both ways.
3. Set it up at your event. Setup is super easy. Just press the power button on the bottom of the phone, wait 30 to 60 seconds for it to turn on, and place it wherever there's high foot traffic: a welcome table, cocktail table, or near the entrance. The phone runs on a rechargeable battery with 12 hours of battery life, so you don't need Wi-Fi, a landline, or a power outlet. Eloping in the mountains? Getting married in a church? You're covered.
4. Guests pick up and leave a message. When a guest picks up the phone, they hear a prompt. Our default sounds like: "Hello, please leave a little message after the tone." You also have the option to record a custom greeting that plays every time the phone is picked up. No apps, no QR codes, no instructions needed.
5. Use it for multiple events. Because the battery is rechargeable, you can use the phone for more than just the wedding: a welcome party, the morning-after brunch, whatever you'd like.
6. Ship it back. After your event, put everything back in the box, slap on the prepaid return label, and send it back to our headquarters.
7. We handle the rest. Within a day of getting the phone back, our team hand-edits and delivers all your voicemails to you, kind of like how a photographer sends out a photo gallery.
What about the phones?
Our phones are real vintage rotary phones from the 1960s and 70s, retrofitted with our tech inside. They're not replicas or reproductions. We rent them rather than sell them, which keeps these vintage pieces in circulation and means you don't have to worry about any of the tech. The phone isn't the keepsake; your voicemails are.
Physical keepsake options
Beyond the digital voicemail file, we offer a few ways to make your audio guestbook something you can hold in your hands:
Custom vinyl record. A one-of-one vinyl record cut in-house at our studio, available in six colors. It comes with a standard jacket, or you can submit your own photos or custom design for the cover. Learn more about custom vinyl.
USB drive. A standard USB with all your voicemails loaded and ready to play.
Cassette USB. A novelty cassette-shaped USB drive with your voicemails on it. A fun keepsake to display.
Who uses an audio guestbook?
Weddings are the most popular use, but our phones show up at all kinds of celebrations: baby showers, milestone birthdays, retirement parties, anniversaries, memorials, corporate events, and more. Both interactive and nostalgic, an audio guestbook gives you something to hold on to and cherish for years to come.
